Mission and Values Statement
The mission of the Rehabilitation Psychology Fellowship program at Upstate Medical University is to provide a structured didactic and enriching training experience that is aligned with the core values of Rehabilitation Psychology as broadly defined by the Baltimore Conference Guidelines for Postdoctoral Training In Rehabilitation Psychology (see Stiers, et al., 2012; Stier et al., 2015).
More specifically, the Fellowship Program strives to instill a deep appreciation and commitment to a person-centered, culturally-informed, disability-sensitive professional training within the context of a medical and healthcare professional teaching hospital. The interdisciplinary focus of the Fellowship Program will provide meaningful clinical and scholarly experiences for post-doctoral psychology trainees seeking the highest level of training in the core competencies of Rehabilitation Psychology.
Program Description
The Rehabilitation Psychology Fellowship will consist of a 2-year training sequence. This will include at least 20 hours per week dedicated to the provision of clinical services. First-year fellows will be embedded in interdisciplinary teams in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF-2N). They will provide care for hospital-level patients and those demonstrating rehabilitation needs. This may include patients following injury or illness, including diagnoses of stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, burns, amputations, multiple trauma, and deconditioning following prolonged hospitalization.
Second-year fellows will have clinical experiences focused in outpatient treatment settings. This will include at least 20 hours per week dedicated to the provision of clinical services in the Concussion Management Program, Psychosocial Oncology Program, and/or others as program development allows.
Salary range: Consistent with current NIH recommendations
